Exhibition:
'Prospettiva Fitocentrica', Centro Pecci
March, 2023
Caring about the earth, the relationship with nature, and environmental responsibility are reference themes in the practice of the collective of Italian photographers. The visual action "Prospettiva Fitocentrica" recognizes the archetypal figure of the tree as a significant means of reconciliation with the world. In the spring of 2021, the initiative started through a symbolical plantation of a dogwood tree in Prato; the first municipality in Italy to extensively adopt specific technical standards in its POC (Municipal Operational Plan) to outline a "bio-diverse" vision of growth for the future, but also a "radical" gesture aimed at affirming the dignity of plants in the city and a militant role of art. The Municipal Parcel 426 is a patch of green space between a car park, a railway track, and a road. Following the performance, the collective members visually adopted some of Prato's monumental trees and created works designed for an en plein air awareness campaign. It's a journey of observation, study, and dialogue with the "green veterans" who represent a statuary message of organic resistance and, above all, an opportunity to rethink that anthropocentric posture that more and more young people have chosen to question.
